Ljubljana Castle
18:15-23:00, Monday, 2 July 2018
full dinner incl. drinks

The medieval Ljubljana Castle has served to many different purposes in the past – it was first a fortress, then residence to the provincial governor, a barracks and even a prison. Ljubljana Castle, the city’s most striking landmark, adds a special touch to the city’s cultural vibrancy. The exterior shell, as it now appears, is predominantly from the mid-16th and the following century. The extensive renovations over the more recent years has provided this splendid location with modern meeting and banqueting facilities, thus transforming it into a unique venue for smaller business meetings and, especially, social functions.

Program

18:30 Departure towards Ljubljana castle
19:00 Arrival at Ljubljana castle
19:45 Gala dinner
22:45 Departure from Ljubljana castle towards Radisson hotel

Postojna Cave
Tuesday, 3 July 2018
Gathering in the hotel lobby at 8:45

Postojna Cave, now in its second century of attracting throngs of admirers from all over the world, was also a challenge for the bold explorers of the underworld who, with patience and perseverance, penetrated ever deeper underground. It is thanks to the far-sighted managers of the cave that the newly discovered sections were quickly made suitable for mass visits.

The visitor’s curiosity is satisfied by facts about the formation of caves, a guided visit through passages and chambers and, above all, by observing the stalactites hanging from the ceiling, the stalagmites growing up from the floor, the pillars formed when stalactites and stalagmites meet, the folds of calcite curtains and the other sequences of fantastic shapes and forms.

10 UNIQUE FACTS OF POSTOJNA CAVE

Visitors’ signatures prove that the cave was known even in the 13th century.
The first (incomplete) map of the cave was published in 1748.
It is one of the first show caves to introduce a cave guide service (1825).
A visitors’ book has been kept since 1819.
The first underground inhabitant (the beetle), was found in 1831.
The first guide to the cave was published in 1821.
The tradition of events in the cave dates back to 1825.
Electric lighting, which replaced candles, was installed in 1884.
The first passenger transport in the cave was provided in 1872 in the form of little carriages running on rails, which were pushed by the guides.
To date, the cave has been visited by over 30 million people.
